Moving from SoapCalc
SoapCalc has no accounts. A recipe is a JSON file you saved with “Export Recipe (JSON)”, or one the old site kept in your browser. Either way, you open it in SoapCalc and copy its summary.
Getting a recipe out of SoapCalc
- Open the recipe in SoapCalc. A file you saved goes back in with “Load Recipe (JSON)”. A recipe from the old site shows in the “Legacy recipes found” banner, but only in the browser that kept it.
- Click “View Recipe Summary” at the bottom of section 6. It stays grey until the oils add up to 100 %.
- Select the whole summary and copy it. Only the oils and the settings are read from it.
Bringing it in
- Paste it into the importer and check the list: each oil, its amount, and the oil it was matched to.
- Pick an oil for any line it could not match, then open the recipe in the calculator.
- Check the superfat and the water, then save it. The recipe’s name comes with it when the page had one.
What changes on the way
SoapCalc sets fragrance in ounces per pound, or grams per kilo. It comes across as a share of the oils: 0.5 oz per lb is 3.1 %.
SoapCalc counts potash as pure unless “90% KOH” is ticked. The calculator here starts at 90 %, which is what most potash is; set it to what yours says.
The JSON file names each oil by a number of SoapCalc’s own, so it cannot be read here. The summary can.
The lye can come out a gram or two different. That is not the arithmetic: each calculator holds its own saponification value for some oils. The importer puts the lye your recipe states next to ours, and each oil’s page names where its value comes from.
