Moving from Soapee
Soapee closed on 30 April 2024. Its code is public, but the database with everyone’s saved recipes was never released, so the only copies left are the ones people printed or saved.
Getting a recipe out of Soapee
- Find the printout or the PDF. Soapee’s print page had the oils under “Oil Breakdown” and the lye and water under “Recipe Totals”.
- Copy the text out of the PDF. From paper, type the oils in, one to a line with its weight.
- Take the “Superfat” and “Lye Concentration” lines too, if you have them.
Bringing it in
- Paste it into the importer and check the list: each oil, its amount, and the oil it was matched to.
- Pick an oil for any line it could not match, then open the recipe in the calculator.
- Check the superfat and the water, then save it. The recipe’s name comes with it when the page had one.
What changes on the way
Soapee wrote big weights with a comma in English, 1,527 g, and with a dot in German or Spanish, 1.527 g. Both are read as fifteen hundred grams. Check the amounts the importer shows before you open the recipe.
Soapee took potash as 90 % pure unless you changed it. So does the calculator here; set it to what yours says.
The lye can come out a gram or two different. That is not the arithmetic: each calculator holds its own saponification value for some oils. The importer puts the lye your recipe states next to ours, and each oil’s page names where its value comes from.
