Calculate a 100 % Inajá Kernel Oil bar

The saponification value here is derived, not published. No primary document we could use gives one for Inajá Kernel Oil, so it is calculated from this record's own fatty-acid composition: chain lengths fix the molar mass, which fixes how much hydroxide a gram of fat consumes. That gives 238.6 mg KOH/g, ±3 %.

That is stoichiometry on a measured composition rather than a guess, and it is about as well determined as a published figure: checked against the 35 Codex oils where both fields come from the same standard, the method's median error is 0.90 % and its 90th percentile 2.74 %, with no meaningful bias. The formula page shows the working. If you have a certificate of analysis for your lot, enter its measured value in the calculator and this estimate is set aside.

Where these numbers come from

PlantFAdb (Michigan State University), based on the Seed Oil Fatty Acids (SOFA) database of the Max Rubner-Institut — PlantFAdb datasets for Maximiliana maripa (plant 11851) · read 2026-09-24

Dataset #14303, kernel oil (SOFA TAB_014601).

The kernel fat of the inaja palm, a lauric fat like babassu from the same genus; CosIng's only inaja ingredient is this one, Attalea Maripa Seed Butter. The pulp oil is a different, oleic product (inaja-oil). ONE ANALYSIS ONLY: Bereau et al. via PlantFAdb ('Maximiliana maripa Drude mesocarp and kernel oils: fatty acid and total tocopherol compositions', 2001; SOFA TAB_014601; French Guiana), kernel oil, oil content 31.3 %: C6:0 0.0, C8:0 3.8, C10:0 4.0, C12:0 40.5, C14:0 25.4, C16:1 0.0, C16:0 9.0, C18:2 2.4, C18:1 10.8, C18:0 2.4 (98.3 %). No saponification value, iodine value or melting point was found in an allowed document; the build derives the saponification value from this profile (it implies about 239 mg KOH/g). The category follows palm kernel and babassu oil in this dataset; CosIng calls the material a butter, and whether it is solid at room temperature was not established from a document.
