The fatty-acid bands are the Gustav Heess product specification for refined peach kernel oil (Pfirsichkernoel raffiniert, Reg-Nr. Sp224030d, printed 19 September 2023, released 22 August 2023; Prunus persica kernels, 32-45 % oil, pressed and then refined; INCI printed as Prunus Persica Kernel Oil): palmitic 4.0-7.0, palmitoleic max 1.0, stearic 1.0-6.0, oleic 55.0-72.0, linoleic 17.0-30.0, linolenic max 1.5, other fatty acids max 1.5 % (GC of the FAMEs, Ph. Eur. 2.4.22); acid value max 2.0 mg KOH/g, peroxide value max 10.0 meq O2/kg, relative density (20 C) 0.910-0.920. The sheet prints no saponification or iodine value. SAPONIFICATION VALUE from two PlantFAdb peach kernel datasets (plant 10369): #11100, 'Investigations on the 3 commercial species of Rosaceae' (1984), 195.0 mg KOH/g, with iodine value 90.2, acid value 1.8, 45.1 % oil and palmitic 7.2, stearic 2.3, oleic 74.8, linoleic 15.6 %; #12048, 'On the fatty-acid composition of Turkish vegetable-oils' (1983), 196.5 mg KOH/g with iodine value 110.5. The iodine band also spans #10895 ('Utilization of some untraditional sources of high oleic acid oils for improving vegetable oils stability', 2001) at 103.54 and #11506 ('Study of the glyceridic fraction of lipids of seeds from Rosaceae prunoids', 1986) at 99.0; #11506 also gives unsaponifiable matter 1.5 % and #15441 ('Determination and comparison of oil characteristics in Iranian almond, apricot and peach nuts', 1976) 0.45 %. The Heess midpoints imply about 191.5 mg KOH/g, 2 % under the published values, which is ordinary agreement. A RECENT MEASUREMENT FALLS PARTLY OUTSIDE THE BANDS: Rodriguez-Blazquez et al. 2023 (Molecules 28(20):7045) Soxhlet-extracted (n-hexane) kernels of peach stones from Albacete, Spain: palmitic 7.95, palmitoleic 0.579, margaric 0.0612, stearic 1.401, cis-vaccenic (C18:1 n-7) 1.302, oleic 52.9, linoleic 35.4, alpha-linolenic 0.129, arachidic 0.143, gondoic 0.090 % - more linoleic and less oleic than the refined-oil specification allows, a reminder that kernel oils differ with cultivar and origin. It is quoted here and not merged into the bands, which describe the commercial product. FOR SOAP: a high-oleic, almond-like oil: conditioning, soft on its own, fairly stable. INCI name, CAS and EC numbers are CosIng's, and the Heess sheet prints the same.
