Goat milk powder

Milk soap from a powder instead of liquid milk.

Try it in the lye calculator

Opens the calculator’s starter recipe, 1000 g of oils, with this additive at the dose it fills in, ready to change.

What it is

Goat milk powder is whole goat milk dried to a powder; one study found it about a quarter protein. Made up at Meyenberg’s ratio, 28 g of powder to about three quarters of a cup of water, it gives regular-strength milk.

How much

The calculator fills in 2 tbsp per cup of the water: 16.7 g for the 1000 g of oils in its starter recipe.

When and how

  • Usually: as the lye liquid.
  • Also used: into the oils, at light trace.
  • At light trace: Make it into a paste with a little of the recipe’s water.
  • Stir it into the recipe’s water and freeze that; the lye goes into the frozen milk.
