它是什麼，在皂中有何表現
八角茴香精油是以蒸氣蒸餾八角（Illicium verum）乾燥的星形果實製成，中國是唯一的大型出口國（He 等人）。它幾乎全是反式洋茴香腦，氣味像甜甜的甘草。在涼爽的室內，約14至17 °C 時它就會凝固（Simmons 與 Appleton），所以秤量前要先把瓶子稍微溫熱。
Faiola 把 anise 列為在冷製法中表現良好的精油，並以總油重2.6%的用量搭配山雞椒，不過她的書沒有說明是哪一種 anise（洋茴香或八角茴香）；Fisher 則發現 anise 依搭配的精油不同，可以作為前調或中調。這個用量是本頁 IFRA 數值的好幾倍；本頁的數值在本站屬於最低之列，因為這種精油含有草蒿腦（EFSA）。這個數值是上限，讓八角茴香只能作為極微量的點綴。
它是洋茴香腦最便宜的天然來源，而有些以八角茴香名義販售的精油其實是合成洋茴香腦（Murphy 等人）。
